This army was fiercely loyal to Sauron and had an innate hatred of Gondor. Sauron hired them as mercenaries to fight alongside the Easterlings. They had a max. army of 100,000 men (@50:1 a max. of 2000 figures).
 

The Variags of Khand were a fierce warrior culture of Men from the land of Khand, located southeast of Mordor, who fought for Sauron in the Third Age. They were known for their hatred of Gondor and their use of chariots and they fought alongside other Easterling tribes. The name "Variag" itself likely comes from Old Norse words for "mercenaries" or "those sworn to service,".

They were fiercely loyal to Sauron, taking advantage of their ancient hatred for Gondor to serve him. They were a warrior caste known for their horsemanship and use of chariots. They were a significant force, even fielding an army of 100,000 at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.​
