The Army of Mordor in The Lord of the Rings was a large and diverse fighting force primarily composed of Orcs, Trolls (Olog-hai) and enslaved or allied Men such as the Easterlings and Haradrim. These groups were a mix of Sauron's own bred creatures, such as the Uruk-hai, and peoples from lands to the east and south who had been conquered or allied with him.

The vast majority of Sauron's forces were Orcs, with various breeds including the strong Uruk-hai. They were armed with a variety of weapons and armor. Sauron commanded a variety of trolls, including the powerful Olog-hai, a breed that could endure the sun.

Sauron's armies included large contingents of Men who served him, Easterlings: Warriors from the eastern lands of Rhûn, Haradrim: Warriors from the southern deserts of Harad, known for their war-beasts called Oliphaunts.

Other evil creatures, such as the Ringwraiths, also served in Sauron's army, often as high-ranking officers and commanders.

While the common speech was widely used, Sauron also utilized the Black Speech in his service, particularly among his high-ranking servants.

The army had a clear command structure, with captains like the Witch-king and eventually the Mouth of Sauron, leading different parts of the host.

Sauron's army was vast, with massive numbers deployed in different regions, such as the vanguard that attacked Minas Tirith and the large reserve force that advanced on the Black Gate.
