During his invasion of Ynys Weith, King Margh of Dumnonia fought a naval action off the islands coast, as the Jutes, led by their new Thegn Haethfan, attempted to forestall the attack. Despite heroic attempts the small Jutish fleet was beaten & scattered
During June, Hengist's son Aesc of Lundein, led a huge army to assault & take St Albans in Cynwidion. As well as leading a mutli-State Justish force, Hengist had also hired mercenaries from Europe, these being the rapacious & deceitful Salian Franks, plus Saxons from the Breda region. At the point where Aesc's troops had just managed to break two gates down & some of his men had crossed the southern wall, Magistrate Ambrosius of Caer Gloui arrived with a large force of allied cavalry. Aesc, being informed of this, by one of his subordinates, immediately ordered the retreat. Ambrosius's aim was to secure St Albans, so pursuit was minimal. However the mercenary Saxons did take heavy losses. St Albans was relieved
